Many non-profits are on the road to making the world a better place by providing both medical and food aid to hunger-stricken countries. However, to achieve this, the organizations must have income channels. Fundraising events have for long been one of the most fruitful avenues. Here are five of such events that have brought in significant funds for these organizations.
Race for Life
This is an organization out to help treat and cure cancer by providing medical aid to hospitals and cancer research centres. The organization sets up races to help raise funds for their projects. In 2014, the team was successful at raising CAD 86 million during their annual event.
World Biggest Coffee Morning
Another popular charity event for cancer treatment is the World Biggest Coffee Morning by Macmillan. The organization encourages people to host morning coffee in their homes and donate funds in support of the fundraiser. They have raised as much as CAD 41 million and more in a year from these events.
No-Makeup Selfie
Using the power of social media has always worked for charity organizations. The No-Makeup Selfie challenge encourages people to take a selfie with no makeup, post it online, and then text ‘donate’ to the charity. The process is simple, but the fruits have been quite significant, raising over CAD 13 million.
Dryathlon
The Cancer Research UK has challenged thousands of Brits to go without alcohol for a month and use the amount they would have otherwise spent to donate instead. More than £5 million has been collected yearly from this challenge.
London to Brighton
Though not a UK-wide event, this London to Brighton bike race has encouraged thousands of people to donate to the British Heart Foundation. The event does not limit participant locations, thus allowing them to raise millions of Canadian dollars for the foundation.
